Warning Description: Winter Weather Advisory

WarningSum:...Winter Weather Advisory Remains In Effect Until Midnight Est
Tonight...
Warning Message:A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight EST
tonight for much of the Southwest Mountains of North
Carolina...the upstate South Carolina mountains...and Rabun
County in northeast Georgia.
Precipitation will develop across the extreme southern
Appalachians this morning. The precipitation should begin as snow
and sleet...and then transition to a mixture of rain and sleet
through the day. A changeover to all rain is likely by late
afternoon before a swift transition back to snow this evening as a
strong cold front moves through the region from the west.
Total snow and sleet accumulations will be generally around an
inch for most locations today through tonight...with lesser
amounts to the southeast just outside the mountains. Accumulations
of 1 to 2 inches will be possible in the extreme southern
mountains of North Carolina...with isolated 3 inch accumulations
at the highest ridge tops.
Additional northwest flow snowfall will continue across the North
Carolina mountains Wednesday through Wednesday night...with 2 to 4
inch snowfall totals expected. Strong northwest winds will also
develop Wednesday morning across the area...and continue through
Wednesday night. Wind speeds of 35 to 45 mph will be
possible...and winds may gusts to between 50 and 60 mph at times.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow...sleet...or
freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for
slippery roads and limited visibilities...and use caution while
driving.

WarningSum:...High Wind Watch In Effect From Wednesday Morning Through Late
Wednesday Night...
Warning Message:The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued
a high wind watch...which is in effect from Wednesday morning
through late Wednesday night.
Very strong northwest winds will develop across the region on
Wednesday and continue for most of Wednesday night. Sustained
wind speeds will peak during the afternoon and evening hours...ranging
from 30 to 40 mph. Damaging wind gusts may develop by mid day and
remain into the early morning hours on Thursday. Peak gusts are
forecast to exceed 60 mph.
Recent widespread precipitation events and cool temperatures has
kept soil conditions across the region nearly saturated. In
addition...most of the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia
will experience a hard freeze tonight...further loosening the
soil. The combination of unstable soil conditions and strong gusty
winds could result in significant damage to trees and power lines.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph...or gusts of
58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest
forecasts.
